BEAUTIFUL…BUT BLACK: A medical poem

black beautiful medical poem

I am black.
I am blessed.
How much do I deserve to be me?
What have I done to merit this ugliness—
The blackness of me?

I am black.
I am flawless.
I will wash this sin away!
Scrub it off to the last layer:
I am too ashamed to be true!

I am black.
I am beautiful.
From the crown of my head to the soles of my feet:
Black. Black. Black.
Now, tell me, how much blacker can I be?
